FAMILY CAMP FAQ's

What kind of activities are there?

What kind of programming do you have for my kids?
We run kids classes for all ages, including teens, during our morning chapel. There are a variety of options available in the afternoons (eg. waterfront open, pontoon boat ride, riflery, archery, low ropes course, geocaching), and usually a camp-wide activity after supper (eg. soccer, baseball, penny carnival). We encourage parents to get involved in these activities with their children. See the sample Family Camp Schedule for more details.

Do kids have to go the program (eg. teen class)?
Teens can choose to go to chapel if they prefer. All our program staff are engaged in kids programming during chapel, so our other program facilities are closed at that time.

Do you have kids programming in the evening? babysitting?
We offer kids programming during chapel 2 evenings per week. We don't coordinate babysitting, but provide places where parents or older siblings can gather to visit near their rooms after putting small children to bed (downstairs in Lakeside, screened tents in front of other lodges).

Do I have to bring lifejackets for my family?
We have lifejackets in a full range of sizes. If you have tiny children and already have lifejackets for them, you may want to bring your own, as some weeks the number of babies/toddlers may exceed the number of very small lifejackets we have on hand.

Any additional costs for programming?
We are all-inclusive! The only additional cost is for water skiing/tubing/wakeboarding. We sell tickets daily at a nominal cost ($3-$5 per ride).

What are the rooms like?

What amenities/toiletries do you provide?
The rooms range from dorm-style in Cedar Lodge (private room with many bunks, parent's room, shared bathroom), to simple motel rooms in Birch Lodge with 2-piece bath (each room has double bed or 2 twins - some have adjoining doors for families - can add bunk to twin room), to rooms with full bath in Lakeside & Aspen (queen beds & twins - some 2-room suites - see accommodations page for more details).

Guests bring their own bedding in Cedar Lodge. Linens and towels provided in other lodges. Fresh towels are provided mid-week. We recommend to bring additional towels for the beach. We provide soft soap in all the bathrooms, and bar soap in rooms with 3-4 piece bath, but not shampoo.

Is there internet access in my room?
Wireless internet is available camp-wide, however signal strength varies depending on location and usage. Guests must adhere to our user agreement, and use is limited to lower bandwidth applications - large downloads and streaming not allowed.

Do you serve alcohol - or can I bring alcohol?
We don't serve alcohol. We ask guests to not bring alcohol.

Are the rooms air-conditioned? Should I bring a fan?
None of the guest rooms are air-conditioned, though the dining room and chapel are air-conditioned. All rooms have electric fans, Lakeside Lodge rooms also have ceiling fans. If you're in a suite (2+ rooms), some people bring an additional fan.

What is the food like?
JOY is renowned for our high quality meals and fresh home baking. Meals are served buffet-style, and quantities are generous. Nutritious options are always part of the menu- fresh fruit at breakfast, and as an alternative dessert, and fresh vegetables and salads with every lunch and dinner. It's also good to note that Chef Todd's infamous Chocolate Molten Lava Cake is high in anti-oxidants ;).

Can you accommodate special diets?
We do all we can to accommodate food allergies and sensitivities. Make sure that you provide the information to our office, either as part of your registration process, or by email.

We carry a few gluten-free products - you may want to supplement with some of your own. We carry some dairy-free milks, but not almond milk, as we are a nut-free dining room. Please don't bring almond milk due to the threat to other guests with severe nut allergies.

Do you allow pets?
To avoid allergens and the discomfort of other guests, we have a no-pets policy. We recommend a local kennel - www.clearwaterkennels.ca
